AN EVENING WITH RICHARD JOBSON – IN CONVERSATION WITH JOHN ROBB

Q&A – Book Signing – Short acoustic set of Classic Skids songs
Rounding off the Leek Arts Festival’s ‘Amuse Bouche Weekender’ on Sunday 23rd March, we are most excited to welcome Skids lead singer Richard Jobson to The Foxlowe Arts Centre where he will be joined by John Robb to discuss his fascinating life and career in music, TV & film and literature.
He will also perform a short selection of classic Skids songs with current guitarist Connor Whyte.
Richard Jobson was born in Kirkcaldy Scotland 1960. He joined the punk band The Skids when he was 16 years old. They had a string of hits including Into the Valley, The Saints are Coming and Working for the Yankee Dollar before the disbanded in 1981.
He went on to act in a variety of stage plays before working as TV presenter on Arts shows such as 01-for London and Sky’s The Movie Show.
After producing movies for Sky and Mirimax he directed a version of his own book 16 Years of Alcohol to great critical acclaim. He has gone to to direct 6 more movies and recently had a leading role in Creation Stories – the story of Alan Mcgee.
He has continued to write poetry and prose as well as lyrics for the now reformed Skids who played the Albert Hall to a full house a few months before Covid.
His work with words goes beyond writing and has been included in light installations and photographs with layered text which are regular exhibited.
His new book The Kreuzberg Sonata is a fictionalised account of his life in Berlin in 1980/81 when he lived in the city with his girlfriend who sadly committed suicide.
